The MEGT Board is committed to ongoing improvement in Governance. The key is utilising a facilitator with a wealth of knowledge and practical expertise. As directors, we fully understand that done well, an external review can be both challenging and reassuring. It can provide impartial and independent advice, objectivity, real life examples, focus and discipline, that ensures a successful outcome. Our board understands that governance learning needs feedback. Better still is when it is in the hands of a competent professional. Enterprise Care met all our needs by creatively engaging Board members in a Governance Intelligence® Audit; delivering an insightful Report; and Damien Smith, engaging all directors in a robust and constructive session. We found Damien has an obvious deep knowledge of governance thinking as well as a highly-attuned understanding of Board practices. One of Damien’s key strengths is that he really listens to the client. This experience enabled the board to highlight areas for performance improvements, across board and individual director levels and therefore, organisationally. Our board understand that even the one per cent improvements, can make a significant difference. The outcome renewed our focus and generated sharper insights in critical areas. While many offer governance consulting services, Enterprise Care can provide the combination of insight, communication, connectivity, engagement, and an executable plan; variables that work powerfully together to deliver governance feedback that is valued and valuable. Our experience recalibrated the board’s thinking involving what we had become and what we could become.

After 65 years of operation we thought it very timely to conduct our first-ever assessment of board performance and benchmark our effectiveness. We anticipated there were gaps in our knowledge and effectiveness but were uncertain where to begin to objectively identify and develop a plan to address them. Damien Smith, Managing Director Enterprise Care guided us through an expert process to resolve these issues. Damien deftly facilitated development of our action plan in a very professional, thorough and energetic manner. We achieved much in a short timeframe. Damien’s passion for good governance was always evident and he imparted many years’ worth of important, shared learnings. I highly recommend the use of the Governance Intelligence® Audit as a robust measurement tool for objectively evaluating board effectiveness. The combination of results from our Governance Intelligence® Audit together with the workshop led by Damien Smith was a powerful way to quickly understand how to continuously improve board interactivity and performance.

We had a very good experience with the Governance Intelligence® Employee Engagement Audit. Participants found the interface very easy to use and particularly appreciated how they could rate their responses. I believe that this ease of use had a significant impact on our very strong participation rate (up to 75% of our workforce) which we were of course, very pleased with. Enterprise Care’s support was great and in the event that there were any questions from participants, these were promptly addressed. The Governance Intelligence® domains are very relevant and the feedback across each of them has provided us with a great deal of information that will certainly assist the leadership team with strategic planning. This is particularly true from an employee engagement and culture perspective. So, overall a very good experience for us with a great interface that has enabled us to identify useful information.

Dear Damien I refer to our recent discussions concerning Governance Intelligence® and the various Audits. In particular I confirm our trial of the Culture Audit. In large legal firms it is quite often difficult to identify what constitutes the culture of any particular firm. Quite often culture emanates from the personality and attitudes of some of the controlling partners or an extended period of legal practice which imbues the firm with various characteristics. In my experience it is not often that the culture is analysed in any depth; and even less often, is any attempt made to modify or change the culture. It is assumed that culture is organic and grows with time. The strength of the Governance Intelligence® Culture Audit I think, is that it enables a significant number of respondents to provide relevant information anonymously. The Audit has been carefully structured and has the ability to develop a meaningful report; which provides the basis for analysis and more importantly an excellent snapshot of the key cultural aspects of a firm. I therefore congratulate you on developing the Governance Intelligence® concept and the various Audits including the Culture Audit. I am sure that this will prove of great benefit to any firm willing to undertake the various processes that you have so carefully outlined. Thank you for your assistance to date and I look forward to future contact.

The MEGT Remuneration & Governance Committee was keen to provide key insights into specific elements that impact our Board’s future performance and sustainability. Governance Intelligence® was engaged to undertake this important assignment. Damien Smith used the Governance Intelligence® Audit tool which allowed the MEGT Board to easily identify the right issues; and through their Peer Conversation® session empower directors to finalise the way forward.
